Spencer Dies

A cloud of dust expanded up into the air as Zach pulled in front of the ranch styled house in his GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate. He opened the door and stepped outside in his Tecova ostrich boots. He stepped up to the door and gave it 3 loud knocks.

A few moments later the emerald door opened and Delaney stood in front of him with new fabulous fringe bangs that instantly took his breath away.

“What are you doing here?” Delaney asked, “I thought for a second you might be Spencer.”

“I have come to take you home. Also, Spencer is dead” Zach proclaimed.

He always hated her relationship with Spencer, but he understood because he was a busy man. This is why Delaney and Zach got along so well, and were married. They had a progressive relationship which meant Delaney could progress to do as she pleased.

The apple in her hand dropped to the floor.

“Forget the apple, you never liked apples Delaney” he said as they stood there and it rolled to the corner of the room. He embraced her closely and asked “Are you gonna be okay?”

“What happened to him?” She asked.

“He was murdered by a gang of thieves a few miles from here. The authorities doing their patrol found his body by the side of the road.” Zach explained.

“No, he was coming to see me. This is my fault” Delaney began to moan.

“It’s not your fault Delaney, it was never your fault. Nothing will ever be your fault again now that he is gone. He always made you feel guilty.” Zach still held her close.

“The work we did together was important, but you are right. He was always the victim and I am just used to thinking this way.” Delaney said.

“They announced on the news that he left 2 pregnant women behind. He was a mess Delaney. I am sorry that I didn’t save you from him sooner.” He finally released her and wanted to move onto something more pertinent.

Delaney was feeling a sense of relief and shock that things were over so suddenly with Spencer. She always knew it would end, she just didn’t know how. Their time together seemed like a really slow eternity that took forever to pass by.

Still they had shared so much together; his home break-ins, their therapy journey, and so many thrills. Delaney would finally be at peace now.

After Zach explained he wanted her to come back to the city she had to leave her book of songs that she was writing about Forest with her Spanish guitar. She could persist to leave Zach and keep musing, but she loved Zach and always had so it was better she stay with him.
