Sarah’s penthouse at The Beauvallon was on the 13th floor and Spencer spent his mornings on the terrace reading the Washington Post. The weather was getting colder in Denver as he exhaled he could see his breath. He peered over the balcony in his black Versace bathrobe and matching slippers while the water in the bird bath froze over.

It had been a year since he ran into Sarah at the Denver Art Museum in the elevator and they had been seeing each other ever since. The sex was amazing and he couldn’t get over the way she looked in her Bogner snowsuit when they would visit Aspen. They also went to school together back in the day and had picked up right where they left off that summer. Sarah was a workaholic however, leaving Spencer on his own most of the time which he never took for granted.
He finally agreed to move into a greater level of commitment with Sarah and move in after she issued an ultimatum. He also knew that Delaney was very clearly in love with someone else and it was turning out to be a huge waste of his time to live with her on the homestead out in the eastern plains of Colorado. After attending a short stint of therapy with Delaney, he realized he never really knew anything about her. Like nothing, at all.

Spencer began regretting his decision a couple of weeks after moving into The Beauvallon because it turns out Delaney was as noncommittal as him and that was probably the greatest thing they both had in common. Sarah challenged him which put him out of his male energy and she also invaded his boundaries and personal space, kind of the same way he did to Delaney.
“I’m coming back. I can’t take this anymore. I miss you. – Spencer” his letter read.
No one had a phone since the nationwide black out occurred half a year ago. The U.S. had entered world war 3 and people had to live without power and formed communities that cohabitated somewhat peacefully. There was still a lot of looting and if you weren’t careful, you could be killed. Thankfully the mail service was still working. The whole WW3 didn’t stop anyone from living their love life ~ Especially people like Delaney and Spencer who were simultaneously involved with multiple relationships at time. They were important people to a lot of people.
A thief had stolen his truck right when he got back to The Beauvallon so he had no way of making it back to the Eastern Plains other than to hitchhike. This wasn’t going to go well with his Armani wardrobe but he did plan on brining his Versace cologne. He would be able to make it back to the homestead by early November as long as he didn’t get killed along the way. He knew it was worth the risk because yes, it really was this bad with Sarah Ballard.
He regretted not just going to see Delaney that day at the art museum, but at least he had some great sex.
