Jade & Sapphire

The purple collar of Nate’s polo brushed up against his neck as he twisted over to grab his journal from his North Face backpack. His watch slid ever so slightly down his wrist and the leather band got tighter when he finally gripped the book and pulled it out onto his lap.

He flipped through the pages and bit his lip. The elevator door chimed and someone got off and greeted him as they passed by, but he had no time for pleasantries. He wasn’t usually a nice person, he kept to himself and tried to avoid interacting with anyone in his building.

Summer left her ring at my place. It’s has a jade and a sapphire stone on a platinum band. She left in a hurry after we discussed where our relationship was headed, I think she wanted to keep it casual. I am going to miss sharing all of my insights on our philosophy class with her. Tonight I am headed to an underground show at

4441 Delgany Street

~ that was what he needed, the address. He closed the journal and place it back in his backpack. He clasped his hands together interlacing his fingers and clutched very tightly as he looked up at the clock and saw it was a quarter past 4.

His phone vibrated.

Summer : Do you have my ring?

Nate : No

He was going to sell her ring, she didn’t need it anyways. Nate shoved the journal into his backpack and swung it over his right shoulder. He stood up and made his way to the building entrance.

Summer : I know you have my ring

He ignored her message. He was already making his way out past the courtyard and heading for Delgany Street. The sun was shining brightly through the buildings in the city and there was a thick smoke in the air from the Oktoberfest that was happening a block away. Cars passed quickly by as Nate briskly walked getting closer to his destination.

His phone started ringing and vibrating in his pocket. By the time he got to the spot he had 4 missed calls from Summer. He entered the doorway and started to drag his hand across the wall trying to keep his balance. The hallway was crowded with people wearing streetwear and holding plastic cups full of liquor. Glass beads covered the entryway to the stairs leading to the basement where there was a neon light suspended in the air.
